Sheeri (Baramulla): Chief Minister, Mehbooba Mufti on Sunday appealed for cessation of hostilities on the borders in the State, saying that it is the people of Jammu and Kashmir who have suffered due to the acrimony between India and Pakistan.
Addressing the attestation-cum-passing out parade at Subsidiary Training Centre Sheeri, Chief Minister reiterated her appeal of friendship, dialogue and reconciliation between the two South Asian neighbours to sort out issues.
“How painful it is that when they should be demanding good schools, hospitals and roads, the people of border areas in the State are asking for bunkers to protect their lives”, she said while expressing her deep anguish over the loss of lives on the borders during the heavy shelling of past few days.
Terming maintenance of law and order within the State as a challenge in itself, Mehbooba stressed the Police on adopting community policing and a humane approach while dealing with day to day situations. She said efforts should be made to ensure the return back of the local youth to their families and friends who, “unfortunately”, have gone on the path of violence. She stressed on a collective mechanism by Police, parents and the society in this regard. She also appreciated J&K Police for “maintaining peace” in Jammu and Kashmir.  “I appreciate the role played by J&K Police in maintaining peace in the state. They have given supreme sacrifices in the line of duty.”
