Srinagar: Authorities on Saturday imposed restrictions in parts of Srinagar to prevent protests called by the joint resistance leadership (JRL) against civilian killings. The JRL had called for complete shutdown and protests across valley.

Prohibitory orders issued by the District Magistrate were imposed in Rainawari, Khanyar, Nowhatta, M R Gunj and Safakadal in old Srinagar and Maisuma and Kralkhud in uptown areas.

“Essential services, government employees, bank staff, students appearing for examinations and the invigilation staff for such exams are exempted from the restrictions,” police said.

Heavy deployment of police and paramilitary Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) has been made to maintain law and order at sensitive places in the city.

While Syed Ali Geelani continues to be under house detention, authorities placed Mirwaiz Umar Farooq under house arrest while as Muhammad Yasin Malik was arrested.
