Srinagar: An Improvised Explosive Device (IED) was recovered by 44BN of CRPF in the wee hours of Saturday near HMT area of Srinagar outskirts on Srinagar-Baramulla highway. It was diffused by the bomb disposal squad at morning.
Reports said 44BN of CRPF recovered the IED, which was plotted near HMT, around 4 am. The government forces and the bomb squad reached the spot and diffused it at 11 am.
Traffic movement on the highway was suspended and the entire area was sealed by forces.
The IED weighed about around 7 kilograms, an official said.
“A major tragedy was averted by forces by defusing the IED,” an official said.
The traffic was restored later on.
An IED planted by Jaish-e-Muhammad militants in Sopore town of north Kashmir’s Baramulla district left four policemen dead last week.
