Srinagar: The summer capital of the state experienced another freezing night with temperature hovering below four degrees Celsius even as south Kashmir parts were colder than other parts in the Valley.
The night temperature in Srinagar settled at 4.3 degrees Celsius below zero as against minus 4.4 degrees Celsius the previous night, the coldest of the season so far.
A meteorological department official said the mercury in Qazigund in south Kashmir settled at a low of minus 4.6 degree Celsius as against minus 3.4 C on previous night while Kokernag town recorded a low of minus 3.4 degree Celsius against minus 2.4 C on previous night.
Kupwara town in north Kashmir registered a low of minus 4.3 degree Celsius last night, down from the previous night’s 4.0 degrees Celsius, the official said.
He said the mercury at the famous ski-resort of Gulmarg in north Kashmir settled at a low of minus 6.0 degrees Celsius as against minus 7.5 degrees Celsius on the previous night and was the second coldest place in Valley.
The night temperature in Pahalgam, the hill resort in south Kashmir, recorded a low of minus 6.6 degree Celsius, down from minus 5.0 degrees Celsius on the previous night, and was the coldest place in the Valley, the official said. The MET office has forecast dry weather for next few days.
“Weather will be mainly dry and cold over the state in next 24-hours,” the official said, adding, “the dry weather is expected for subsequent two days.”
Meanwhile, an official of traffic department said that one-way traffic will be allowed from Srinagar to Jammu on the highway, the only surface link of Kashmir to outside world.
