Srinagar: Gulmarg, the world famous ski-resort in north Kashmir, witnessed an unprecedented rush of tourists this season on Monday.
All hotels in the mountain-locked bowl were filled to capacity by local as well as foreign tourists on Christmas.
Reports said that hundreds of tourists swarmed the world resort which is already under a slow-blanket of over 2-ft think.
Also, reports said, Gulmarg Gondola Cable Car Corporation Project has earned revenue of Rs ten lakhs on a single day on last weekend, marking it the highest returns on a single day this season.
Gandola, since its launch, has been the major attraction for the tourists, both domestic and from abroad, and has been earning huge revenues. The tourists travelling to the world famous resort take pride in riding the Gandola, the Asia’s highest ropeway.
Having many cabins, the Gondola, can ferry 600 people every hour to and from Kongdoori, a bowl shaped valley at the foothills of Afarwat Peak at the height of 13,780 feet. Split in two phases — Gulmarg-Kongdoori and Kongdoori-Afarwat — the phase one is an exciting 15 minutes trip over pine-covered forest range and slopes of snow.
The Jammu and Kashmir Bank has also recently commissioned ATM at Gandola and a number of foreign tourists who spokes to INS urged the bank to keep provisions for foreign exchange at the resort.
