Srinagar, Dec 23: The primary health centre (PHC) in Adipora, Sopore in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district is in shambles with no medicine and other basic facilities available, locals say. They rue that the directorate of health has failed to set things right and make doctors and hospital staff accountable as series of cases of negligence have surfaced in the centre recently.
The PHC, about 2.5 kilometers away from Sopore town, was constructed on Auqaf land in 90s but the building has never been upgraded.
A local, Mohammad Shafi, said the health centre lacks proper staff, equipment, beds, labs and even doctors. “It lacks almost everything except few painkillers, paracetamol and other generally used tablets,” he said.
People of the area told INS that the health department has failed them on every front. “We suffer a lot due to this step-motherly treatment by authorities,” they said.
The block medical officer (BMO) Sopore Dr Sami told INS that the PHC has proper staff and management. “Still, we will look into the matter and the genuine demands of locals,” Dr Sami said, adding that he will raise these issues with higher authorities.
