Srinagar: Hurriyat Conference (M) chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq on Monday paid glowing tributes to late journalists Khawja Sanaullah Bhat and Sufi Ghulam Muhammad on their death anniversaries. Mirwaiz said that both of them were the pioneers of journalism in Kashmir and their contribution to its growth and development in the state was immense.

In a statement issued here, Mirwaiz said their in-depth understanding of political and social issues facing the people and the manner in which they portrayed it, shows both their literary capabilities and close connect with the people especially the common masses.

He said people of Kashmir will always remember these great sons of the soil with respect and affection.

Mirwaiz also condole the death of veteran journalist and social activist Om Saraf. He said the late journalist had close relations with his father Mirwaiz Farooq as they “both shared the common concern for the rights of the downtrodden and harmony and good will among all communities living in the state.”

Meanwhile a s spokesman of the amalgam strongly condemned the continuous house detention of Mirwaiz and caging a huge population in their homes by imposing restriction in most of the parts in Srinagar including Downtown.

“These acts reflect the dictatorial attitude adopted by the government aimed to weaken the popular political sentiment of the people of Kashmir.’
