BANDIPORA, NOVEMBER 23: Government on Thursday claimed that over 72093 metric ton fruit production had been recorded in Bandipora district during current year, including 70300 metric ton fresh fruit and 1794 metric ton dry fruit.

The data was revealed during a daylong awareness cum training program, organized jointly by Horticulture Department and Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), in Bandipora.

Chief Horticulture Officer, Bandipora Manzoor Ahmad Bhat, who was Chief Guest on the occasion, presided over the function.

The Scientists of KVK and the experts of Horticulture Department gave necessary training to the fruit growers and orchardists regarding scientific techniques of pruning and other related matters.

“There are 5744 hectare of area under Horticulture in the district which include 5147 hectare under fresh fruit and 597 hectare under dry fruit. He said during current year , over Rs.6 crore are being spent under various schemes including PMDP, PMKSY, MIDH and State plan to boost the Horticulture activities in the district,”  Bhat said.

According to Bhat 1940 fruit plants are being distributed among the farmers during ensuing plantation season.
