Srinagar: A day after revered shrine of Khanqah-e-Moula suffered damage, Hurriyat Conference (G) chairman Syed Ali Geelani on Thursday expressed grief over it and called for protecting and safeguarding all historical assets.
In a statement issued here, Geelani expressed his deep shock and grief over the fire incident and the damage caused to the spire of revered shrine.
On his direction, a delegation comprising of general secretary Ghulam Nabi Sumji, Imtiyaz Ahmad Shah, Mohammad Yusuf Naqash, Davinder Singh Behel, Bilal Sidiqee, Mohammad Yasin Ataie, Hakim Abdul Rashid, Molvi Bashir Ahmad and Gulshan Abbas were deputed to assess the damage caused to the revered shrine in the previous night’s fire incident and discussed about immediate steps for its repairs.
“Geelani could not visit the revered shrine because of his continuous detention since last seven years.”
While expressing his deep concern and reservations regarding the “mysterious” fire incident, Geelani said: “our nation is insecure in the hands of these puppet and cruel authorities and added that apart from historical heritage and revered shrines, our cultural, civilization, religion and dignity is at stake. We must protect and safeguard them at any cost.”
Geelani also cautioned the people about the “folly and deceitful tactics of Indian authorities.”
“Hazrat Mir Syed Ali Hamdani (R.A), the great saintly reformer and Islamic scholar is founder of Islam in state and his contributions as a writer, scholar, philosopher and poet are huge and immense,” he said, adding, “We are indebted to his great and scholarly work that he was the only preacher of Islam in Jammu & Kashmir and who brought a change in life styles of Kashmiri masses and imparted to them Islamic values. He preached Islam and affected the conversion of thousands of peoples.”
