Srinagar: Ambassador of Bosnia-Herzegovina to India, Sabit Sbuasic, on Thursday met Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, chairman of Hurriyat Conference (M), at his residence at Nigeen here.
“Mirwaiz discussed with the visiting envoy several issues and acquainted him in detail about the ongoing freedom struggle in historical and geographical prospective,” a spokesman of the amalgam said in a statement issued here to INS.
Mirwaiz informed the ambassador that Kashmir issue has been reason for many wars between India and Pakistan, it said. “The present hostility between the two neighbours is due to the pending Kashmir issue,” Mirwaiz was quoted in the statement as having informed to the envoy.
Mirwaiz also informed the envoy that the resistance leadership was neither against peace nor against meaningful dialogue, the statement said.
“Along with Jammu and Kashmir we want a peaceful south Asia and need of the hour is the resolution of the Kashmir issue in accordance with the wishes and aspirations of people of Jammu and Kashmir,” Mirwaiz said and underlined need for taking concrete steps in this regard.
He said that India’s ‘stubbornness’ and ‘ego’ was the biggest hurdle in the dialogue. “we have time and again impressed that people of Jammu and Kashmir are ready to act a bridge to bridge the difference between India and Pakistan,” he said.
Mirwaiz also recalled the hardships faced by the people of Bosnia-Herzegovina, often known informally as Bosnia, in their quest for freedom.
“Like-wise people of Jammu and Kashmir are continuing from last 70 years with the struggle in pursuit of the freedom and now fourth generation has got involved in the struggle,” Mirwaiz said.
He also informed the visiting envoy about the curbs put on the movement of pro-freedom leaders. “Hundreds of our youth and activists are behind the bars in different jails of India. Human rights violations are at its peak. Our collective political and religious rights have been usurped forcibly.”
The envoy, the statement said, informed Mirwaiz that people of Bosnia-Herzegovina understand the pain of people of Jammu and Kashmir “because we have gone through such phase. “It will be our endeavour to do whatever we can possibly do to bring the stakeholders together for peaceful settlement of the Kashmir issue,” the envoy said, as per the statement
