Srinagar: The recent bank robberies in South Kashmir was perpetrated by militants as they have run out of cash, said Inspector General of Police Kashmir Muneer Ahmad Khan on Saturday.
IGP Kashmir while talking to INS claimed that the are resorting to loot public money as they are out of cash.
“In both the incidents in Ratnipora and Shopian there is clear CCTV footage, identifying the millitants. The question of denial by the Hizbul Mujahideen(HM) outfit does not exist,” Khan said.
Nearly Rs 7 lakh cash was stolen from two branches of J&K bank when unidentified gunmen barged into Ratnipora branch in Shopian and Marhama branch in Anantnag district.
The police had blamed HM for the two bank robberies while identifying five local militants as being responsible for the incident.
“We have identified the militants behind the incidents from the CCTV footages of these branches,” Khan said.
