“An Army patrolling party was attacked in general area of Drang, Distt Budgam. The fire was returned. One soldier was martyred in the crossfire,” army spokesperson Col Rajesh Kalia told INS.

However to the contrary, police denies that any exchange of fire ever happened in the area. Not only is police denying shootout but also say that they even had no ‘inputs of militant presence in the area’.

“There is no input of militants presence. What has happened, how it has happened, we are still verifying it,” Superintedent of Police Budgam district, Tajinder Singh said.

Later, when contacted, Inspector General of Police Muneer Khan told INS that death of Rajkumar ‘is a case of accidental fire’.

When contacted, for his reply to the claim of police chief, PRO Army said, “We stand by our version of the incident and won’t comment on IGP’s claim”.

Was Subedar killed by militants as Army says or he died of ‘accidental fire’ as police claims. confusion remains.
