Srinagar: Believe it or not: at 3:45 am workers appear in Usman abad, Umerhaer, Buchpora area of Srinagar to macadamize 175 ft of interiors. By 5:30 am work is complete, workers leave and at around 12 pm cracks appear in the new road.

Residents were shocked and surprised ‘when they arrived, they were quick’.

“We were shocked to see that they have put tar coal on grass base. No compressor was used and the layer was so thin that one could see the grass beneath it,” residents complained.

As the ‘surprise workers’ job was showing its ‘poor quality’ at around 12 pm residents checked the road ‘and it was cracking, breaking all over the track’.

“One could simply peal it off the road. God knows how much money would the contractor would have charged the department for it and the work they do like this,” residents said.

INS contacted Axon, Right River Circular Road division of Roads and Building R&B, Nayeem Khan who said that he will depute a team to do on spot verification of the work done.

“I assure you, will look into the matter,” Khan said.

Before this report would be published, an inspection team led by an officer of Assistant Executive Engineer reached Usman Abad.

“The officer himself was shocked to see the blacktop,” residents told INS.

Facing wrath of residents, the officer asked residents to ‘pardon them’

“They promised that they will remove the blacktop and new tar will be laid,” eye witnesses said.
