 Srinagar: Police on Thursday said that it arrested a notorious drug peddler, ‘Farooq Codiene’, in Kupwara district of north Kashmir.
A police officer said that a special team of Police arrested Farooq Ahmad Mir alias Farooq Codiene of Muqam Awoora and recovered 100 bottles of Codeine and some strips of capsule proxovan from his possession.
A case FIR No. 254/2017 u/s 8/20 NDPS Act stands registered in police station Kupwara and investigation has been taken up, the officer said.
During the special drive against drug peddlers, the Special team has so far arrested 33 accused involved in drug peddling, narcotic smugglers  and cases under NDPS sections against them were registered, he said. “So far, 13 Kgs of Charas, 2 Kgs of Heroine, 4.5 Kgs of Brown Sugar, huge quantity of codeine and many strips of capsule proxovan have been recovered from the possession of arrested accused persons.”
According to SSP Kupwara Shamsheer Hussain Mir is a notorious drug peddler of the district and has also been detained under PSA owing to his “deeply involvement in drug syndicate.”
The SSP said that more arrests and recoveries were expected in future “so as to bust the whole racket involved in sale of banned drugs and psychotropic substances.”
