Srinagar: Opposition National Conference on Thursday accused ruling PDP-BJP alliance of being interested in keeping “chair safe” only and cold to demands of people who it said were going through “turmoil-ridden security scenario, massacres and non-availability of essential commodities.”
Addressing a marathon review meeting at party headquarters Nawa-e-Subah for the upcoming State Delegates’ Convention in Srinagar later this month, Party General Secretary Ali Mohammad Sagar said, “Present dispensation of PDP-BJP combine has time and again proved that their interests lie only in keeping their chair safe. What people of the State are going through in terms of turmoil-ridden security scenario, massacres, non-availability of essential commodities is something they are hardly bothered with. They have even forgotten to take into account the current spree of braid chopping incidents across the Valley and have failed miserably in assuaging the fears of general people particularly that of our mothers and sisters.”
The meeting also expressed a sense of deep disappointment over the casual and irresponsible attitude of the state cabinet and the Chief Minister made evident by the fact that almost half of the State Cabinet gave the recently held Cabinet Meeting a miss. “This Government has shamelessly conceded the power of cabinet decisions to a select particular lobby. There is a thriving transfer industry operating outside the powers of the Chief Minister and the Cabinet”.
“All the speakers congratulated the party leadership for taking the initiative of organizing a grand party convention after 15 years. Many issues concerning the party and its workers were raised in the meeting and appropriate decisions were taken to make the convention a grand convention. In that direction all the constituency in charges were directed to make necessary arrangement s for the smooth conduct of the convention,” the statement reads.
