Srinagar: Six militants have been killed in two separate gunfightx with army along the Line of Control (LoC) in Tanghdar and Rampur sectors of north Kashmir on Monday. Four as many soldiers, one of them an officer, were also injured in the gunfight at Tanghdar, reports said.
They said that a joint team of army’s 20 RR and 6 Gadwal, manning the Balthania post along the LoC in Tanghdar sector of north Kashmir’s Kupwara district, noticed some suspicious movement on wee hours on Monday.
Army opened fire which was retaliated by the infiltrators, triggering off an encounter in which four militant have been killed so far, they said. The intermitted firing was going on in the area.
Reports said an army officer (lieutenant), Rahul Sheikh, was among four soldiers injured in the gunfight. While officer and another soldier have been admitted in military hospital Drugmulla, two remaining injured soldiers were airlifted and admitted to 92-base hospital at Badaminagh here for specialized treatment.
So far, army has three militant bodies along with weapons and bags
Army’s Srinagar based defence ministry spokesman Col Rakesh Kalia said three militants have been killed so far.
Meanwhile, Col Kalia said another infiltration bid was foiled when Army intercepted a group of militants that tried to sneaking into this side from PaK in Rampur sector in Baramulla.
He said two militants were killed in the exchange of fire. “Two weapons were recovered from the encounter site,” he said. Additional reinforcements were rushed to the area and a massive hunt was launched in the dense forest to nab the other militants, he added.
