Srinagar: Hurriyat Conference (M) chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq continues to be under house arrest, a spokesman of the amalgam said on Sunday.
“On 10th of Muharram, Mirwaiz was to deliver a special sermon at shrine of Alim Sahib (RA) at Narwara Srinagar but he couldn’t due to continuous house arrest,” the spokesman said.
Mirwaiz was placed under house at his Nigeen residence here on Thursday evening and the spokesman termed it “vindictive, unjustified and undemocratic” on part of the authorities. The spokesman also condemned the state authorities for imposing “curfew and restrictions”.
“It is highly unfortunate that state as and when wishes, without any justification, puts Mirwaiz under house arrest to prevent him from discharging religious and social obligations,” the spokesman said.
