Srinagar: Hurriyat Conference (M) chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq remained under house arrest to bar him from delivering Friday sermon at historic Jamia Masjid, a spokesman of the amalgam said.
Mirwaiz was placed under house at his Nigeen residence here on Thursday evening and the spokesman termed it “vindictive, unjustified and undemocratic” on part of the authorities.
“It is highly unfortunate that state as and when wishes, without any justification, puts Mirwaiz under house arrest to prevent him from discharging religious and social obligations,” the spokesman said and condemned authorities for imposing curbs on Mirwaiz’s movement.
