SRINAGAR: Additional Deputy Commissioner Srinagar (ADC), Purnima Mittal Thursday convened a meeting to review the preparation of District Road Safety Action Plan (DRSAP) for the City.

RTO Kashmir, SP Traffic, Executive Engineers of R&B, SMC & PDD, Principals of Educational Institutions, Representatives of NGOs and other concerned officers were present in this meeting.

The meeting was informed that the Ministry of Roads & Highways (MRH) devised a format for District Road Safety Action Plan 2017-18, in which every district in the country were directed to made their plan according to this format. In this format, six pillars of road safety measures were prescribed viz a viz Road Safety Management Institution & Capacity Building, Road Safety & Mobility, Safer Vehicles, Improvement in Enforcement of Traffic Regulations: Safer Road Users, Education and Emergency Care.

ADC directed all concerned departments to submit the feedback and suggestions, according to the format devised by Ministry of Roads & Highways, within a week so that the District Road Safety Action Plan for Srinagar district will be made immediately for the safety of passengers, commuters and drivers.

Executive Engineer SMC informed the meeting that the Corporation will install Intelligent Traffic Lights (ITL) in the City Soon. These ITL will automatically read the intensity of the traffic in the crossing and accident prone areas which will reduce the traffic jams quickly besides reduce tendency of road accidents in the Capital City.

On the occasion, ADC said the administration is ensuring that road accidents which claim precious human lives, cause disability and injury, should be minimized. All required measures in terms of effective regulation, better road engineering and greater use of technology need to be a taken with full commitment.
