Srinagar: The Joint Resistance Leadership on Friday said that it wants ‘sincere, meaningful and result-oriented’ dialogue but accused New Delhi of “fleeing” from it and making attempts to put the onus on it in cotemporary “grim situation” in Jammu and Kashmir.
The JRL comprising Syed Ali Geelani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Mohammad Yasin Maliksaid  that the lingering Kashmir ‘dispute’ was a human and political issue and not a territorial dispute.
They reiterated that as far as a sincere meaningful and result oriented dialogue process among the three parties to the dispute was concerned, they were never against it and saw it as a means of conflict resolution.
“The leadership regretted that instead of creating a conducive environment for such a process, Indian state sees the issue as a law and order and administrative problem and as such is focused on enhancing  its military power by providing war headed helicopters to be used against Kashmiri people raising slogans for the right to self-determination and upgrading the police apparatus” the trio said in a statement issued here.
The military approach, they said, results in continued killing, maiming, blinding and injuring of people.
They said political activists have been jailed and peaceful political activities are prohibited while every nook and corner of the state has been turned into a garrison and a battlefield.”
“In this grim situation of oppression, the rhetoric to hold a dialogue for the permanent resolution of Kashmir issue is an excuse to flee from the dialogue table and put the onus on resistance leadership.”
The leadership, they said, as custodian of innumerable sacrifices in terms of half a million lives lost and enforced disappearances, chastity of women violated, thousands of people especially youth incarcerated and languishing in jails and tortured, while property worth millions destroyed, does not want it to come to naught but seeks a result oriented and meaningful dialogue that leads to fulfilling the will and aspirations of the people of Kashmir.
“As all human beings world over, we also desire peace and prosperity.  JRL represents the sacred sentiments of people demanding right to self-determination and urges the need between two nuclear neighbours to defuse the high danger of widespread destruction of human life and property in the wake of any clash between them and appeals them to engage with each other for resolution of issues.”
