Srinagar: President of National Conference Dr Farooq Abdullah on Monday led a delegation of opposition leaders to Governor N N Vohra and impressed upon him to convene a special session of assembly to discuss ‘impending threat to the state’s unique relation with India.’
“The session will also enable a discussion on various political and legal challenges the state is facing,” reads a joint statement issued after the meeting with governor. A Public Interest Litigation, challenging vires of Article 35A, which protects state’s unique identity within the constitution of India, is under challenge before the Supreme Court which has posted it after ensuing festival of Diwali for ‘final hearing’ amid government of India’s ‘conscious decision’ not to file counter affidavit.
The delegation included party’s General Secretary Ali Mohammad Sagar, JKPCC state chief G A Mir, CPI (M) leader M Y Tarigami, DPN President G H Mir, Chairman PDF Hakeem Mohammad Yaseen, Congress leader and MLA Usmaan Majeed besides NC leaders in Abdul Rahim Rather, Mohammad Shafi Uri, Mohammad Akbar Lone, Mian Altaf.
The delegation apprised the Governor about the prevailing situation in the state and brought to his notice the “lackadaisical approach” of PDP-BJP government in addressing issues concerning people of the state.
Besides, the delegates highlighted the “total failure of the incumbent government” especially on fronts of curbing “booming and rampant corruption, promotion of nepotism and backdoor appointments and dismal performance of state in forwarding the interests of its people.”
Many government departments and PSUs, they said, have been turned into the fiefdom of the ruling parties.
