Srinagar: Cordon and Search Operation is underway in several villages of Shopian district in south Kashmir.

According to sources the CASO is a joint operation by  Army’s 62 RR and Special Operation Group SOG of Jammu and Kashmir Police,

The villages, according to reports, under siege include Matribugh, Ronipora, Zoipora, Dangam, Wangam.

Similar operation was launched on Aug 19, which involved almost ten villages in the Shopian district.

The villages were CASO was carried out were Chakoora, Mantribug, Zaipora, Pratabpora, Takipora, Ranipora, Ratnipora, Dangam and Wangam.

An Area Domination, operation was undertaken by government forces on May 5 this year as well.

The operation was launched in some 17 villages around Tehsil Chitragam and an Army official that time had said that operation of this magnitude ‘has not been undertaken in Kashmir in the last 15 years’

According to sources 4,000 personnel were involved in May5 operation, which included four battalions of Rashtriya Rifles, eight companies of CRPF, and five platoons of J&K police, including 30 women constables, and the Indian Reserve Police.
