Kulgam:  A court here has held two persons guilty of cutting trees in forest area and sentenced them to year’s jail.
Judicial Magistrate 1st class also imposed Rs 1000 fine on each on Mohammad Yaqoob Beigh and Abdul Aziz Bhat who were caught by the officials of the Forest Department on 3 August this year while cutting the trees in forest compartment 44/N Kulgam.
Accordingly an FIR number 194/2017 under section 379 RPC, 6 Forest Act was registered against the duo in Police Station Kulgam and investigation was taken up.
The case was challaned and was tried in JMIC Kulgam. The prosecution produced witnesses and after evidence was recorded, the case was finally agreed. The court agreed that the prosecution has succeeded in providing the guilt of accused beyond shadow of reasonable doubt.
The Magistrate also sentenced the duo to imprisonment for a period of six months and a fine of Rs 1000/ each for the commission of offences under section 6 Forest Act. Both the sentences will run concurrently.
