Srinagar: The Srinagar Municipal Corporation( SMC) is mulling to replace the old passenger sheds in the city with the new ones. The move is aimed to encourage the use of these spaces and provide relief to the commuters in the city, the corporation claims.
Talking to INS Commissioner SMC said that the process of tendering for replacing these old sheds with modern passenger sheds, which are in vogue in Delhi and other metropolitan cities of India, will start in a few days and all the old passengers sheds would be replaced with new ones.
“We will be tendering the process of installing new passenger sheds in the city very soon and the old sheds from all over Srinagar would be replaced with new ones, he said.
Presently most of these sheds in the city are in a shabby condition and mostly remain unused. In some places these spaces remain occupied by stray dogs, besides garbage is found littered in the premises of these passenger sheds due to which commuters avoid use of these sheds.
SSP Traffic Srinagar, Sargun Shukla, told INS that most of the passenger sheds in the city are lying in a dilapidated condition and people avoid the use of these sheds ‘but once these passengers sheds are replaced and made functional traffic department would ensure that the buses stop at these designated shelters to avoid congestion in the city.’
“The state government should immediately renovate or replace these passenger sheds so that people make use of them in these simmering weather,” Umer Nazir a student from Rainawari told INS.
