Srinagar: Joint Resistance Leadership on Friday expressed their deep concern over the death threats served on social media against leading religious cleric and columnist, Altaf Hussain Nadvi.
In a statement issued here, the leaders— Syed Ali Geelani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Mohammad Yasin Malik said that he has been one of the courageous soldier and at forefront in ongoing “freedom struggle.”
“He is a well-respected columnist and in civilized societies there is a space for different opinions but on mere differences, the death threats seem to be a part of conspiracy,” they said, adding, “Only enemies can go to such an extent.”
Meanwhile joint leadership strongly condemned the ill-treatment meted out to political prisoners and said that the detention period of prisoners was being prolonged on one pretext or the other. Terming it political vendetta, the leadership expressed concerns about the falling health of Aasiya Andrabi in Amphala jail saying, “this is extreme sort of vengeance against ailing Dukhtaran chairperson.”
Demanding immediate release of Masarat Alam Bhat , Aasiya Andrabi , Ameer Hamza Shah, Mohammad Yousuf Falahi, Mir Hafeez ullah, Bashir Ahmad Boya, Raies Ahmad Mir, Mohammad Yousuf Lone, Abdul Gani Bhat, Abdul Ahad Para, Mohammad Rafiq Ganai, Farooq Tawheedi, Salman Yousuf, Tanveer Ahmed, Hakim Showkat, Haji Mohammad Rustam Bhat, Shakeel Ahmad Yatoo and scores others ,the leadership said that these “repressive tactics” can’t break their resolve .The
Resistance leaders said that most of the prisoners were bailed out by court but were repeatedly slapped with PSA to prolong their detention.
 Expressing concern over those detained by NIA including Shabir Ahmad Shah, Peer Saif ullah, Shahid-ul-Islam, Altaf Ahmad Shah, Ayaz Akbar, Raja Meraj-u-Din, Nayem Ahmad Khan and Farooq Ahmed, the leadership said that they are being subjected to “ill and inhuman treatment” by jail authorities and basic facilities denied to them.
