Srinagar: A fresh gun battle between militants and joint team of government forces has started at Zainapora area of southern Kashmir’s Shopian district. Three militants and two soldiers were killed previously.
Official sources said that as the joint team was carrying searches, a militant rose from debris of a house, razed earlier and opened fire.
The personnel from joint team again took position and returned the fire, triggering off a fresh gun battle.

Earlier three militants and two soldiers were killed in the gun battle. Three more soldiers, one of them a Captain, were also injured in the gunfight which started at Astan Mohalla in Awanura village of Zainpora on Saturday night after government forces including of army’s 3 and 55 RR and SOG launched a joint cordon-and-search-operation following inputs about the presence of militants.
The fire fight had stopped at around 10p.m. on Saturday following which the government forces started searches, they said.
However, on Sunday morning, as the searches were going on, militants, hiding in the area again opened fire on the government forces which they retaliated, triggering off a fresh gunfight. In the fresh shootout, three militants militant were killed, the reports said.  Internet services in the area have also been snapped by the authorities.
