LeT militant killed, two escape in Samboora gunfight: Police

Srinagar: One Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) militant was killed while two others escaped during an encounter that raged between forces and militants in Samboora village in Pulwama district on Sunday night, police said.
A police spokesman said that encounter broke out on late Sunday night after army and police cordoned off the area following inputs about the presence of militants.
The official said that Awantipora Police, 50 RR and CRPF jointly participated in the encounter in which the LeT militant, identified as Umer of Pakistan, was killed.
“Two militants escaped from the encounter site, one among them was injured. One AK 47 rifle was seized from the encounter site,” the spokesman said.
“Role of Umar in different crimes perpetrated by Abu Ismail group is being ascertained,” the police said.
The encounter concluded in the wee hours of Monday morning amid intense clashes and protests by locals that helped the two militants escape.
Meanwhile, amid complete shutdown in South Kashmir’s Pulwama district, clashes erupted between youth and forces in South Kashmir’s Pulwama district.
Clashes erupted in Pulwama town following the killing of a militant in Samboora during which forces used tear gas canisters to disperse the youth who were throwing stones on them.
Cordon and Search Operation (CASO) was launched in Pinglin area of Pulwama district following the inputs about the presence of militants there during which the youth took to streets and pelted stones on forces.
Superintendent of Police (SP) Pulwama, Muhammad Aslam Choudhary told KNS that minor clashes erupt in Pulwama today while the partial shutdown was observed by the people in Pulwama and Kakapora.
“The traffic movement was also witnessed in the district,” he said, adding that the search operation was launched in Pinglin near B. ED College where negligible clashes took place.
He said that the search operation was later called off.
Meanwhile, in north Kashmir, a complete shutdown was observed in Hajin, Baramulla and Sopore areas today.
All the shops, business establishments and the educational institutes remained closed in these areas today while the traffic was also thin ion the roads.
Meanwhile, the mobile internet services continued to remain suspended in north Kashmir.
The mobile internet services were suspended on Saturday morning following the encounter in Sopore in which three militants were killed.
Javed Ahmad Dar of Khanpora Baramulla, Abid Hamid Mir of Hajin Bandipora and Danish Showkat of Batpora Sopore were killed in a gunfight at Amargarh area of apple town Sopore. (KNS)
