Chief Secretary reviews status of BRO projects

Srinagar: Chief Secretary, B B Vyas today reviewed the status of road infrastructure network in the state assigned to Project Beacon, Sampark and Himank of the Border Roads Organization (BRO).
While Project Beacon is assigned the road development work in all three regions of J&K, Project Sampark is mostly tasked with the improvement and development of roads in Jammu-Rajouri-Poonch sector and Project Himank for Ladakh region.
Commissioner/Secretary, PW(R&B), Commissioner Secretary, Revenue, Chief Engineer’s of Project Beacon, Project Sampark, Chief Engineer, R&B, Kashmir, Chief Engineer, PMGSY, Kashmir and other senior officers participated in the meeting. Divisional Commissioner, Jammu, Divisional Commissioner, Kashmir and DCs of Baramulla, Kupwara, Bandipora, Ganderbal, Leh, Doda, Poonch, Rajouri, Kishtwar, Samba, Kathua participated in the meeting via video conferencing.
While highlighting the crucial role being played by BRO in improving road connectivity across the three regions of the state, Chief Secretary urged BRO to expedite work on all critical roads. He further impressed upon the concerned Administrative Secretaries, Divisional Commissioner Jammu, Divisional Commissioner, Kashmir and DCs to coordinate with BRO and draw up timelines for early resolution of issues related to land acquisition, forest clearance, shifting of utilities and disbursement of compensation.
“Timely completion of road projects is vital for growth and development of the state” Chief Secretary observed.
Chief Secretary reviewed the status of Project Beacon roads including Bandipora-Gurez, Chowkibal-Tanghdar-Chamkot, Kupwara-Kalaroos-Machil, Srinagar-Sonmarg-Gumri, Srinagar-Baramulla-Uri, Basohli-Bani-Bhaderwah Mahi- Dipling, Sakti-Agyam, Nimoo-Padum and Loma-Demchok road etc.
He also reviewed the status of Project Sampark and Project Himank roads including Reasi-Arnas-Mahore, Rajouri-Thanamandi-Surankote, Bani-Basholi, Kalai Bridge approach, Gali-Aganpathri, Chadwal-Sanjimore-Paharpur-Simble, Khet CRP Dhok, Reasi-Pouni-Siar-Rajouri, Bhawani-Dharal, Rajpura-Madwal-Phulpur, Agrachak-Rspura-Dablihar-Rathana-Arnia-Khour, Shahstar-KG Top, Domel-Jindrah-Kharta and Rajouri- Kalakote road etc.
BRO was also requested to expedite work on various roads in Keran and Tangdhar sector and prioritizing finalising of DPR for Sadna Tunnel.
In order to expedite resolution of issues and completion of all BRO projects, Chief Secretary impressed upon DCs to hold review meetings in every 3rd week of the month.
The progress of BRO projects will again be reviewed in September, 2017 by the Chief Secretary. (KNS)
