Srinagar: Police today detained a journalist in Srinagar’s Lal Chowk during protests and put him in Kothibagh police station.
Manzoor Zahoor, editor of Akhbar-e-Mashirq, was detained in Lal Chowk near Press Enclave.
Police said that he was released after few minutes, but Zahoor claimed that he was thrashed by the police inside the police station.
“Police thrashed and beat me inside the police station,” he said.
A senior police official told KNS that the Zahoor was detained after he “abused” police while they were discharging their duty during law and order problem in the city centre.
“Police had detained a protester and the person intervened and abused police to release him,” the officer told KNS, adding that he was released after his identity was ascertained. (KNS)
