Srinagar: The 3-Member Sub-Committee of the Press Council of India (PCI) headed by Mr S N Sinha called on the former Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah here today to discuss the issues of J&K media.

Former Ministers Ali Mohammad Sagar, Aga Ruhullah and Nasir Aslam Wani were also present during the meeting.

The other members of the PCI Sub-Committee included Mr C K Nayak, Dr Suman Gupta and Mr Naveen Joshi.

The PCI team, which arrived here on July 16, held extensive deliberations with the media owners, editors and working journalist over the past four days to know about the issues confronting the media in Kashmir.

The panel also called on CPI(M) state secretary, Mr M Y Tarigami to discuss the issues of the J&K media with them.

Earlier today a delegation of J&K Joint Forum of Newspaper Editors led by Ghulam Hassan Kaloo called on the PCI team at the state guest house here to apprise them of the issues facing the newspapers in Kashmir. They sought the intervention of PCI in facilitating added financial support from the Central and the State Governments to the newspapers in J&K through advertisements.

The PCI team will be visiting Jammu and Ladakh separately before finalizing their report on media scenario in Jammu and Kashmir.(GNS)
