Asiea Naqash for speeding up construction of houses for Weaker Sections of Society

SRINAGAR: Minister of State for Housing & Urban Development, Social Welfare and Health & Medical Education Asiea Naqash today impressed on the officials to speed up process of building houses for weaker sections of the society under Centrally Sponsored Schemes.
She said during a review meeting of urban local bodies here.
For providing succor to the people, Naqash emphasized on establishing individual household toilets, community based toilets and public toilets as envisaged in the government schemes.
While deliberating upon the important issues, Minister asked the officials to ensure that all street lights function properly in the City, and take measures to improve sanitation in other areas as well.
She also directed the officials to ensure proper sanitation system is in place in every district.
Asking the officials to expedite work upon already approved sanitation clubs, Naqash said that it should be completed at the earliest for the convenience of people.
The Minister remarked that the Union Government has come up with a comprehensive scheme for scientific disposal of solid waste, Urban Transport Management and effective efficient drainage system and should need to be implemented in a stipulated period in the state.
She asked the Srinagar Municipal Corporation officials to ensure encroachments are removed from the footpaths and roads in the city.
The officials apprised the Minister that Housing & Urban Development Department has been given a target of 94091 individual household toilets against which 78235 applications have been received and 33987 has been approved for construction. The remaining 450900 are under the process of verification. It was said that the programme has been designed to achieve pre- determined objectives by the end of 2019.
The meeting was attended by Director Estates, Director Urban Local Bodies, Joint Director (planning) Housing & Urban Development Department, Executive Engineers of Urban Local Bodies, SMC officials and CEOs/EOs of Kashmir.
