JK bags best award in ‘Adventure Tourism Destination’ category at Chennai

CHENNAI: The J&K Tourism Department has received the prestigious award in the category of ‘Best Adventure Tourism Destination and Eco-Tourism Destination’ at a 3-Day event organized by Indian International Travel Mart, Chennai .
Deputy Director Tourism (Publicity) Peerzada Zahoor who was representing the J&K State received the award.
During the Travel Mart, J&K stall which was beautifully decorated attracted huge visitors mostly locals and travel agents.
Over the past three years, the Department Of Tourism has been trying to tap the South Indian market. Many travel agents from the J&K State also participated in the Travel Mart who informed the visitors about the tourism potential of the State. They also made on spot booking for Autumn season this year.
The Department of Tourism displayed the pictures of the different tourist resorts at their stall besides distributing the publicity material of the State’s Tourism Products.
The visitors expressed willingness to visit Kashmir in Autumn and also next year after being convinced about the security arrangements put in place by the State Government.
Director Tourism Kashmir, Mahmood A Shah said the department is trying to tap the South Indian market who are very keen to visit J&K.
“South Indian is a good market for Kashmir. Our participation in travel marts is helping the state tourism as we are trying to dispel the misconception among the travellers about Kashmir,” said Shah.
During the Travel Mart, the Department Of Tourism also interacted with the travel agents who are willing to organize tours for schools and business houses.
