SRINAGAR: Deputy Commissioner Srinagar, Dr Farooq Ahmad Lone, today directed the officers to ensure that no auto-rickshaw plies without having fare meters installed within the territorial limits of the district.
He was speaking at a District Road Safety Council (SRSC) meeting convened to review the measures for road safety in the district.
Additional Deputy Commissioner Srinagar, RTO Kashmir, Joint Commissioner SMC, Chief Education Officer, Chief Medical Officer, DSP Traffic, DSP Headquarters, Superintendent Engineer R&B, DGM JKSRTC, Representatives from NGOs, local radio channel and other concerned were present in the meeting.
The DC directed RTO Kashmir to start an intense drive to install digital meters in Auto rickshaws so that passengers are benefitted. He also directed for publishing the fare rates in all leading newspapers.
Dr. Lone asked RTO Kashmir to conduct awareness camps for road safety regularly besides creating mass awareness among the common masses about road safety measures through electronic and print media.
He also directed the Police authorities and RTO officers to regularly check overload in the buses across the district and challan the busses found violating the rules.
Later, Dr. Lone directed Chief Education Officer in collaboration with local NGOs to organize road safety programmes in various schools in the district to aware the children about road safety measures.
He also directed the R&B department to identify the portion of roads for Zebra crossing across the district which will help the people to cross the roads safely.
Dr. lone asked the SMC to provide space for various organization to install the sign boards to display safety measures of roads and rates for the transport plying through all routes in the district.
