Ramsoo Accident: SRTC orders probe

SRINAGAR: Jammu and Kashmir State Road Transport Corporation (JKSRTC) has ordered an inquiry into the tragic road accident near Ramsoo in which several Amarnath Yatris died who were travelling in a vehicle owned by the Corporation.
“An in-house inquiry committee has been constituted to look into the circumstances that led to this tragic accident involving an SRTC bus carrying the Amarnath Yatris,” Mir Afroz Ahmad, Managing Director SRTC said.
He said the inquiry committee has been asked to submit its report within two days.
Meanwhile, Consequent to visiting the site of the tragic accident, accompanied by Chief Secretary, DGP and CEO Shrine Board, in which an SRTC bus rolled down the road into a khud, resulting in 16 yatris being killed and 29 injured, Governor N.N. Vohra,Chairman of the Shri Amarnathji Shrine Board, was informed that the accident had taken place because a tyre of the bus had burst and the vehicle had gone out of control.
Governor directed Sh. B.B. Vyas, Chief Secretary who was accompanying him, to immediately ensure that no SRTC bus is deployed on long distance duty, particularly across the Banihal, which has not been thoroughly checked and certified fit for operation by a responsible ranking SRTC officer.
