Three militants killed in Budgam encounter: Police

Srinagar: Three militants were Wednesday killed in an encounter that raged between the forces and militants in Rudbugh village of Magam area of Central Kashmir’s Budgam district on Tuesday evening, police said.
Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Central Kashmir Range, Ghulam Hassan Bhat told KNS that three militants were killed in an encounter in Budgam district today.
Sources said that after specific information about the presence of militants in Rudbugh area of Budgam district, forces launched a cordon and search operation during which three militants were trapped in a house in the area.
The militants belonged to Hizb-ul-Mujahideen fired upon the forces thereby ensued the gunfight during which forces killed three militants.
The slain militants were identified as Javid Ahmad Sheikh, resident of Saadpora Churpora Narbal, Sajad Ahmad Gilkar, resident of Nowhatta and Aaquib Gul of Goripora Hyderpora.
Meanwhile, thousands of people attended the funeral processions of three militants at their native areas.
Amid pro-freedom and anti-India slogans, the three slain militants were laid to rest at their ancestral graveyards.
Meanwhile, a complete shutdown was observed in Budgam and Srinagar areas today to mourn the death of three militants while the authorities also imposed restrictions in several parts of Srinagar today to prevent any protest against the militant killings.
Witnesses said that the police and paramilitary troopers who were deployed in Srinagar areas today had erected concertina wires on the roads leading towards Jamia Masjid here at Old city Nowhatta area, the residential place of one among the three slain militants.
Meanwhile, clashes erupted between the youth and forces in Srinagar areas today during which forces used tear gas shells, pellets to disperse the youth.
Scores of youth were also injured during the clashes, who according to local sources were either treated locally or shifted to the hospital for treatment.
Meanwhile, DIG CKR told KNS that barring a few incidents of stone pelting, the situation across Central Kashmir remained peaceful and under control throughout the day. (KNS)
