Thrashing of a driver by troopers sparked violent protest in Srinagar

Srinagar: At least seven person including two females were wounded after government forces
resorted to teargas shelling to disperse protesters who were demanding an FIR be registered against CRPF troopers who mercilessly thrashed and abused a driver in Pantha Chowk area of Srinagar.
Eyewitnesses told CNS that situation took an ugly turn when some CRPF troopers of 29 Battalion thrashed a local driver.
The injured driver, identified as Firdous Ahmad of Frestbal Pampore was shifted to JVC hospital in Bemina where from he was referred to SKIMS for specialized treatment.
“Protesters took to streets and staged a demonstration against the thrashing of a driver by para-military troopers allegedly after being signaled to stop on the Srinagar-Jammu highway.
The protest demonstration triggered a massive traffic jam on the highway, leaving thousands of vehicles stranded.
Forces deployed in the area lobbed teargas shells to disperse the protesters, resulting in injuries to seven persons, including two women. (CNS)
