Srinagar: Strongly condemning the deployment of additional forces in the Valley, imposing of undue restrictions on people’s movement, and arrest of resistance leaders and activists ahead of the first anniversary of the slain Hizb commander Burhan Wani and his two associates, the incarcerated chairman of Democratic Freedom Party (DFP) Shabir Ahmad Shah Saturday said that ‘New Delhi and its collaborators won’t succeed in stopping people from remembering their hero.’
In a statement issued to KNS, Shah said that the people’s tribute to Burhan Wani is ‘a referendum against the Indian forcible occupation’.
“Kashmiris are not scared of bullets and suppressive measures. “Indian leaders should read writing on the wall that it can cage our bodies but not our souls,” he said.
Shah condemned the siege of Tral since last four days and converting of the adjacent areas into ‘a military garrison’ and termed it ‘a coward act’.
He said Burhan lives in the hearts of Kashmiris and it is impossible to stop people from paying tributes to him.
“Today, people had to visit Tral and pay tributes to their hero and reconfirm their pledge to take forward the freedom movement but the foiling of march made it clear that India and its collaborators are scared of the people’s referendum,” he said.
“On one hand, people are suffering due to the prevailing situation and on other side; they are facing hardships due to undue restrictions.”
Shah also condemned the disallowing of Friday prayers at central Jamia Masjid, Srinagar and other Masajids across valley and termed it ‘interference in the religious affairs’.
“Such acts make it clear that authorities have not only waged war against civilian population but also against the religious affairs,” he said.
Shah said the remembrance of our martyrs rejuvenates our sentiments for freedom. (KNS)
