Srinagar: National Conference senior leader Ali Muhammad Sagar Wednesday said that mainstream politicians in past committed mistakes those need to be rectified now.
He said it is an open fact that Kashmiris have been betrayed and history is testimony to this fact that New Delhi never fulfilled the promises that it made to the people of Kashmir.
Sagar was speaking in Legislative Assembly on the resolution presented by Jammu Kashmir Finance Minister over the extension of Goods and Services Tax to the State.
Asking those who preach hyper-nationalism to ponder over the fact, that hardly a few hundred people participate in the last rites of any Indian politician in Kashmir. “Now take the case of a militant, lakhs of people mourn his death and back to back funeral prayers are held for him. This is the reality which can’t be denied. This is also a reality when India attained freedom on August 15, 1947, Jammu and Kashmir then was an independent State. It is history that may give bitter taste to those who want to act like Ostrich. This is also history that Maharaja of Jammu and Kashmir wanted both Pakistan and India to respect the State sovereignty and allow J&K to function as an Independent State,” Sagar said.
Asking Finance Minister Drabu to stop talking about the safe guards which he guarantees, Sagar said that it is a well known fact that New Delhi till date has never fulfilled her promises. “Agree or not, Kashmir is a political issue that can’t be sidelined by cheat and deceit,” he said.
“Kashmiris were always betrayed and we committed mistakes. How long will you rule here on military might. Educated people have been joining militancy. We are in a crisis. Houses are being damaged, Schools and Colleges are shut. Everyone is being dubbed as a militant. People get answers in bullets only,” he said.
Castigating Government of India for rejecting the Autonomy resolution passed by Farooq Abdullah led government, Ali Muhammad Sagar said that New Delhi is eyeing on one more erosion through GST. “We have our own constitution. We have our own flag. Sheikh Muhammad Abdullah used to describe Jammu and Kashmir as a crystal and pure spring existing in a vast sea like India. But he also maintained that till this spring remains crystal, Kashmir is safe and vice versa.”
Holding former Governor Jagmohan responsible for the mass migration of Kashmiri Pandits from Valley, Sagar said he was the Minister when Wandhama massacre took place.
“It was January 26 and I had to take salute in Ganderbal. I flew to Vandahama in a helicopter. I saw an infant painted in blood. Army Camp was few meters away from the spot of incident. I went to Army Commandant, asked him the reason of his silence when innocent people were being butchered on the night of Shab-e-Qadar. This infuriated him and later on that Army Officer dubbed me as a militant supporter in an interview with ‘India Today’ magazine,” Sagar said. (CNS)
