Srinagar: Terming the GST as ‘Government Saving Tax’, Jammu and Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) Chief, G A Mir on Monday said that PDP-BJP government is trying every bid to implement the law here to save their chair.
According to KNS correspondent, addressing a presser here at his Humhama residence after chairing CLP meet, Mir said that something fishy is cooking between the PDP-BJP over the implementation of Goods and Services Tax (GST) in the state but his party will defeat the evil designs of the government in this regard. “We will certainly defeat the evil designs of the government over GST,” he said.
“I believe GST is Government Saving Tax for the PDP-BJP as they have no way to come out from the present situation. The party leaders have failed to raise their voice against the GST at parliament when the bill was passed. Now, they are trying to mingle the words to save their chair and to betray the people as well,” he added.
He said that the government should understand the special position of Jammu and Kashmir and must not take any decision, which can infringe the state powers. “We won’t allow any compromise over the special position of JK. The state government should ensure the security of JK’s the special status,” he said.
Mir told reporters here that disallowing media persons to cover the special assembly session on July 04 is the glaring example that something fishy is coking between PDP-BJP. “Media is the pillar of democracy and the government shouldn’t disallow media persons to cover the proceedings,” he added.
He also said that besides Congress, every mature person in JK is against the implementation of GST in the state as they are concerned about the special status of JK.
“We (Congress) were also planning to implement GST across the country but the party was ready to take decision about implementing the law according to JK’s constitution here,” he said, adding that earlier the incumbent government were also thinking to take any decision according to JK constitution but “I don’t know what prompted them to take such decision in last nine months.”
“I believe that the two coalition partners are not on page over the GST implementation as they have so far failed to come up with the concrete agenda in this regard,” he added, adding that the congress party has alerted the government in this regard.
Asked about the protest by trade community, he said, “If we see, the GST is better option for the traders for their business but they are coming out for the security of state’s special status, which is a genuine concern.”
Pertinently, the Congress party here held Congress Legislature Party (CLP) meeting at Mir’s residence, which was attended by senior party leaders inclduign Tariq hammed Karra, Nawang Ringzin Jora, G M Saroori, Vikar Rasool, Usman Majeed and others. (KNS)
