Srinagar: A day after the gruesome lynching to death of a police officer drew outrage across the valley, police today formed a Special Investigating Team (SIT) to probe the barbaric incident even as three more persons have been arrested by police.
The DIG will form a SIT which will probe and nab all the culprits who are involved in the gruesome lynching of the police officer.
Police sources said that the SIT will be headed by SP north Sajad Shah.
DSP, Muhammad Ayoub Pandit of Nowpora, Khanyar in Srinagar was lynched to death by a furious mob in Old City’s Jamia Masjid area in Nowhatta on Thursday while he was on duty.
Talking to KNS, Inspector General of Police, Kashmir, Muneer Khan said that SIT, headed by DIG Bhat will thoroughly and on fast track investigate the barbaric lynching of the police officer.
“Three more persons have been arrested taking the number to five. More arrests are possible,” Khan told KNS. The IGP said that the culprits will be brought to justice.
Meanwhile, police has asked the SP North Sajad Khalid Bhat to report to the Police Headquarter till further orders and placed Additional SP Traffic Srinagar, Sajad Shah in his place.
The lynching of the DSP has drawn outrage in the valley, with people terming the incident barbaric and anti-humanity. The incident seems to have happened for the first time in the Kashmir valley.
Hurriyat (M) chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq has called the lynching to death of the cop as unIslamic and outside the parameters of our values and religion. (KNS)
