Srinagar: The family and relatives of Danish Mir who was arrested by police in the lynching of Deputy Superintendent of Police (DySP) Mohammad Ayoub Pandith in Srinagar, Thursday staged protest and demanded immediate his release.
According to the family, Danish Mir, was hit by bullet in his leg before the police officer was lynched to death outside Jamia Masjid in the intervening night of Thursday-Friday.
The family amid chanting slogans like ‘we want justice’ demanded immediate release of their beloved one, saying that he is innocent and shouldn’t be treated as a criminal.
Mother of Danish told KNS that he was at Jamia Masjid to offer Salaat. “Danish offered only eight Rakats and left the Masjid after he heard loud noise outside the Jamia. He saw a number of people gathered outside Jamia and tried to see what has happened there but unfortunately as soon as he reached the spot, he was attacked by the cop,” Danish’s mother said.
She said that he was immediately shifted to the hospital by some people there. “How can an injured person lynch anyone to death? Danish was almost dead when he was lynched to death by the people,” he said.
“Police arrived at the hospital and said that they will take Danish under preventive custody but after we tried to enquire the health condition of our beloved son, we were not allowed to meet him and were asked to leave,” Danish’s mother said.
She demanded the police higher ups to investigate the case thoroughly so that the facts would come to fore.
They later appealed the higher authorities to look into the matter and release their beloved one at earliest. (KNS)
