Mukalla: The Emirates Red Crescent on Tuesday launched an aid project to provide Eid al-Fitr clothing for orphans, children with special needs and children from low-income families in Mukalla, the capital of Yemen’s southern governorate of Hadramaut, WAM reported.
Now in its second year, the annual humanitarian aid project in Mukalla seeks to ease off the suffering of thousands of families ahead of Eid al-Fitr, which marks the end of Ramadan, the month of Muslim fasting, said the Emirates Red Crescent.
The effort is driven by the humanitarian approach of President Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan to solidarity with people and friends in times of crisis, it added.
An exhibition showcasing the aid project was opened by Undersecretary for Technical Affairs in Hadhramaut Governorate, Mohammed Al Amoudi, and other officials.
Al Amdoudi thanked the UAE for making massive efforts to mitigate the impact of the crisis on people, and extend a helping hand, to the disadvantaged in particular.
Ahmed Al Neyadi, deputy head of the Emirates Red Crescent team, said the project aims to compensate children severely affected by the Yemeni crisis and a worsening economy.
The UAE’s support for Yemenis in Hadramaut will continue through its humanitarian arm, Al Neyadi said.
