Srinagar: To maintain regional and lingual balance in the state, the government has granted sanction to teaching of Kashmiri, Dogri and Bodhi languages to Classes 9 and 10 in all government and private (recognized) schools of the state as compulsory subject.
As per an Order No. 333-Edu of 2017, Dated: 19-06-2017, the Government has granted sanctioned to the extension of teaching of these regional languages in all schools.
“In continuation to earlier orders issued on the subject, sanction is hereby accorded to the extension of teaching of regional languages, viz. Kashmiri, Dogri and Bodhi, to Classes 9 and 10 in all Government and Private (recognized) Schools of the State as compulsory 6th subject (graded), in areas where such languages are spoken as mother tongue,” said an order issued by the Education Department.
“The extension of teaching of above regional languages shall begin from the next academic session viz. 2019-2020 in respect of Class 10,” the order says.
Till now, the languages are taught till Class 8 in all government and private (recognized) schools. (KNS)
