Assembly Session: Speaker chairs All Party Meet

SRINAGAR: Speaker Legislative Assembly, Kavinder Gupta, today chaired an All Party Meet with various leaders and chief whips of political parties, ahead of Special Session of the Assembly commencing from June 17, 2017.
Minister for Revenue and Parliamentary Affairs Abdul Rehman Veeri, Minister for Law & Justice, Abdul Haq and Deputy Speaker Nazir Ahmad Gurezi were also present in the meeting.
The Speaker said it is the responsibility of each and every member of the house irrespective of party affiliation to ensure smooth functioning of the House.
“We all have to together create a conducive environment where healthy debates and discussions can take place in a disciplined manner befitting the dignity of the house so that consensus can be arrived at the policy issue that is being taken up in the special session,” he said.
Calling for cooperation from the Members, the Speaker assured them that every representative will be given ample time to express views, ideas, opinions and suggestions.
Abdul Rehman Veeri while putting Government’s viewpoint and action plan forward said that the Government is looking forward to receive valuable suggestions from members of the House for the enactment of new legislations besides other businesses to be carried out in the House. He said importance of the Opposition cannot be discounted.
Deputy Speaker, Nazir Ahmad Gurezi addressing the meeting said that no individual is above the institution and “we need to strengthen it to safeguard the essence of the democracy”.
The members also put forth their concerns to the Chair including the adjournment of sessions, need for establishing set norm regarding the security detail of the Legislators, proper accommodations among others.
The National Conference was represented in the meeting by MLA Ali Mohammad Sagar and MLA Mian Altaf Ahmad while as from the Congress MLA Vikar Rasool Wani and MLA Aijaz Ahmad Khan attended the meeting. MLA Hakim Mohammad Yaseen of PDF, MLA Mohammad Yousuf Bhat from PDP and MLA Rajesh Gupta from BJP were also present in the meeting.
