Srinagar: Incarcerated chairman of Democratic Freedom Party (DFP) Shabir Ahmad Shah on Saturday said though the concern expressed by the UN over Kashmir is “satisfactory” but the world body should rise above the rhetorical statements on Kashmir and take practical steps to resolve the long-pending dispute.
In a statement issued to KNS, Shah said the UN and world community have been witnessing the grave situation and continuous human rights violations by India in Kashmir for the last 70 years, there is a dire need to find a permanent solution to the lingering dispute than issuing statements.
“UN should look who is creating impediments in way of resolving Kashmir which is the root cause of continuous flare-up between India and Pakistan at the Line of Control (LoC), political anarchy in subcontinent, and unending bloodshed in the disputed territory,” he said.
Shah said the people of Jammu Kashmir and Pakistan have always expressed seriousness in resolving the issue but India on one hand is continuing with its policy of turning Kashmir into a ‘slaughterhouse and on other is jeopardizing the peace in the region’.
The DFP chairman urged the world powers to identify those countries creating hurdles in establishment of peace across globe so that they can be isolated.
He termed it ‘reality the showing of Kashmir as a separate country’ by UN body and said the people of India should realize that New Delhi is misleading them on Kashmir. “The people of India should act with wisdom and understand that Jammu Kashmir was an independent state even before the partition of India,” he said.
“Though the UN has vindicated our stand that Jammu Kashmir is not part of India but unfortunately New Delhi continues its forcible and military occupation of this occupied territory,” he said. (KNS)
