Srinagar: Authorities on Monday continued to impose curfew like restrictions in most parts of the Valley while the rest of the areas across Kashmir observed complete shutdown against the killing of two Hizb militants and a civilian on Saturday in Tral area of Pulwama district.
The curfew like restrictions were imposed in most parts of the Valley including the Srinagar areas falling under the jurisdiction of seven Police Stations including Khanyar, Nowhatta, Safakadal, M R Gunj, Rainawari, Kralkhud and Maisuma.
The restrictions according to the officials were imposed to thwart any possible protests against the killings.
The two militants were killed by forces in Saimoo village of Tral during an encounter on Saturday. While Faizan was buried in his village in Tral on Saturday evening, Sabzar was buried Sunday forenoon in his native Rathsuna village amid pro-freedom slogans by the mourners.
A young civilian, Aqib Rashid, of Khanqah Tral was also killed on Saturday near the encounter site, which police said happened due to “crossfire”. However, locals said that he was killed by forces during protests.
Meanwhile, a huge contingent of police and paramilitary troopers were deployed on the roads in Srinagar and other sensitive areas.
The police and paramilitary troopers had erected concertina wires on the main roads to thwart the vehicular and pedestrian movement.
All the shops, colleges and schools and business establishments remained closed while the traffic was off the roads. Majority of the roads wore deserted look.
During the day, minor clashes were reported in a few areas including 90 feet Srinagar, Tahab Pulwama, Batapora area of Sopore and Trehgam Kupwara today.
Meanwhile, Train services continued to remain suspended on the second consecutive day today here, which were suspended due to security reasons.
The prepaid mobile telephone services also remained suspended since Saturday evening.
Besides suspension of outgoing and incoming call facility on prepaid mobile phones, the mobile internet services were also suspended in the Valley aimed to prevent “rumours” after the death of Sabzar Bhat.
Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kashmir range, Munir Ahmad Khan told KNS that the situation across the Valley remained under control throughout the day.
“Barring two minor stone pelting incidents in Tahab and 90 feet, the situation remained under control,” he said, adding that no injury was reported during these incidents.
Divisional Commissioner Kashmir, Baseer Ahmad Khan told KNS that all the schools and colleges across the Valley would remain closed on Tuesday.
He also said that the restrictions in Srinagar and other sensitive areas will remain in force as precautionary measures. (KNS)
