Srinagar: Jama’at-e-Islami Jammu and Kashmir (JeI) expresses its strong resentment over the unjustified detention of ailing woman leader Asiya Andrabi (Chairperson DeM) and her secretary Fehmeeda Sofi under the draconian law Public Safety Act. This is an act of political vendetta which is totally undemocratic, immoral and inhumane.
In a statement issued to KNS, Jama’at denounces the use of force against the students by the state authorities which is unjustifiable and a blatant violation of basic human rights of the freedom of speech and expression. The detention of students in various parts of the valley tantamount to ruining their educational career and future life. This unabated harassment of student community seems to be a well designed plan to provoke them to commit undesirable acts. The people at the helm of affairs seem to be totally unconcerned and indifferent towards the miseries of the common masses who are suffering badly at the hands of state forces and facing the worst possible state atrocities. On the one hand, these power thirsty people advise them to keep up the peculiar character of ‘Kashmiriyat’ which virtually is the gift of Islam and not that of any language or region or caste. But on the other hand they have given free hand to the state forces to commit barbarity upon the innocent people here. As the vast majority of Kashmiris follow Islam, therefore they never indulge in any activities going against the human ethos and ethics despite all provocations and facing merciless brutalities at the hands of the Indian forces because Islam teaches them the patience and perseverance in all odds and tribulations. Moreover, the Indian media is running a defamatory propaganda campaign against the Kashmiri people which is totally baseless, biased and communally charged with a vicious purpose to cause an irreparable damage to the image of Islam and their just and genuine struggle for securing their right of self-determination in addition to pushing them to economic devastation.
Jama’at-e-Islami strongly denounces the biased and partial role of Indian media and appeals the international community to take strong notice of the human rights violations going on in the valley by the state administration and forces.
