Srinagar: Court has extended the judicial remand of Dukhtaran-e-Milat Chairperson Aasiya Andrabi for two more days. Andrabi and her associate Fehmeda Sofi are currently lodged in Women’s Police Station Rambagh.
A police party form Soura and Zakoora police stations arrested Aasiya Andrabi from her Soura residence on April 26. She was booked under section 107 and 151 Ranbir Penal Code. Police had sought remand for her up to May 3 and later on court extended her remand to May 8. On Monday there was two day’s extension in her remand.
The outfit accused authorities of harassment and said that without producing Aasiya Andrabi before the court of law, here remand is being extended. “Today here remand was extended up to May 10 though police didn’t produce here before the court of law. We fail to understand why authorities are scared of a woman who has been suffering from different ailments,” said a DeM leader to news agency CNS.
She alleged that police have been making mockery of justice system. “How can you extend the remand of a detainee without producing her before the court of law. Aasiya Andrabi and Fehmeda Sofi have been continuously in the police lockup from past 12 days,” she said. (CNS)
