Srinagar, Jan 05: Chairman of Jammu Kashmir Civil Society Forum (JKCSF), Abdul Qayoom Wani on Sunday highlighted the severe drinking water crisis in Tangmarg, particularly in villages like Ussun Bangil, Utiko Tangmarg, Barzallah, Goigam, and Gonipora.

Despite repeated pleas, the administration has not addressed this urgent humanitarian issue, leading to worsening conditions for residents, reads a statement issued to INS.

The core problem stems from the diversion of water from Nallah Ferozpora to non-native areas through large pipelines. This has not only caused a drinking water shortage but also severely affected local irrigation, horticulture, agriculture, and natural springs, posing a potential threat to the fish farming industry. The drying springs and declining water resources are taking a toll on the local economy, which heavily depends on these sectors, he said.

Wani has urged the administration and the MLA of Gulmarg Farooq Ahmad Shah to take immediate action to stop the diversion of water and prioritize the needs of the local population. He warned that if the issue remains unresolved, residents may have no choice but to protest by blocking the Srinagar-Gulmarg road to make their voices heard.

This pressing concern requires prompt administrative attention to prevent further harm to the livelihoods and basic needs of the Tangmarg community, he said.
