Amit Kumar among 71 IPS officers empanelled to hold IG, IG-equivalent posts at Centre

Srinagar, Jan 2: The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) has approved the empanelment of 71 Indian Police Service officers including Amit Kumar to hold Inspector General (IG)/IG Equivalent level posts at the Centre.

The IPS officers are of 2006 Batch (initial) and 1997 to 2005 batches (initial leftover/deferred), according to the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) order.

Among the officers include Senior Indian Police Service (IPS) officer, Amit Kumar, who is presently posted as Deputy Inspector General, NIA.

Kumar has worked as DIG central Kashmir range. Earlier he served SSP Pulwama, SSP Srinagar, SSP SBK, DIG southern Kashmir and DIG Armed Police.

The senior IPS officer also suffered life-threatening bullet injury during an encounter in Pinglan in which two militants were killed in February 2019. In August 2020, Amit Kumar was conferred with the prestigious Shaurya Chakra.
